Contrarii - Opposites

The photos of this project were taken in Romania, in different spots of the mountains of Transfăgărășan. I did not originally plan to make a series out of them (and it lacks some coherence also), but afterwards I realized how perfect this range of mountains were for me to practice composing and to study the nature of light and shadow through its texture.
While oftentimes the subject provided a great opportunity to include foreground, middle ground and background, some shots turned out almost as two dimensional abstract paintings. I found it very exciting how the space was split in half by the silhouette of the mountain. I love the contrast between the plain white sky, and this huge, textured mass with rough edges.
I took most pictures from the seat of a bus, which made photography quite circumstantial: I had very little time to capture anything and the window of the bus gave an extra layer of reflection, which - in some cases - resulted in a softening effect.
What makes this series very close to my heart is that if you look carefully, you can notice tiny people, houses and vehicles on some of them. This also serves as a great contrast and makes it more fantastic and unbelievable, how colossal these mountains are.
